How does the LCD display on an iPhone 6 work?

I think I do understand the basics of LCD displays: A sandwich of two crossed polarization filters with a liquid crystal layer between them - use an electric field to arrange birefringent molecules and use them to rotate the polarization of of the light by 90º so that polarized light from the first filter can pass through the second filter. And as far as I can tell, that is basically the same for IPS and TFT.

This means that the light from an LCD should be polarized, and using a linear pol filter, I can see that for my iPad and for my IPS display. But the light from my iPhone 6 is not linearly polarized, and I also don't see a difference for circular polarized light (Using Real3D glasses).

Does anybody here have a clue how the iPhone6 display works?
