Why is it a big deal the verdict in favor of Oracle in the case against Google?
I know that last year Oracle won a definitive victory in the long lasting trial against Google about the usage of the Java API in Android. I recently saw this blog post and also this article that support the idea that some huge catastrophe will come in the programming world after this decision and that the supreme court should reverse it.
I am not familiar with all projects out there, so I ask what exactly are the projects that would suffer from this decision? And in general what is the big deal?
As far as I can understand API's can be copyrighted, but they have to met certain criteria to do so(like no one can copyright an API with only one function in it probably) and also even if an API is copyrighted, others could still copy it or parts of it as long as it falls under fair use. That seems like a reasonable thing to me.
