Does anyone think Donald Trump and the Twitter feud will have massive repercussions for the Internet, and also, do you miss the Internet culture of 2003-2007?

Having read this Wired article about Donald Trump and his executive order on Twitter, the headline "Donald Trump should be careful what he wishes for. He wants to do away with Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, a piece of legislation that shields internet companies from liability for user-generated content on their platforms. But while the move is chiefly intended to antagonise Twitter, with which the US president is engulfed in an ongoing flame war, the consequences of tampering with Section 230 would be way more far-reaching." got me thinking.

It seems that there's two sides to the argument - people want disinformation, falsehood and violent content removed from platforms. Donald Trump is accusing social networks of doing too much to remove disinformation, falsehood, and violent content.

I don't want to get into debates over whether you support Trump or not, since this isn't about Trump supporters.

Does anyone miss the Internet culture of 2003-2007, when things like disinformation / misinformation / fake news weren't as common, and it seemed ( slightly ) better with the Internet being a place about learning things, financial advice, information etc. I'm talking about this from a social, not technical standpoint - website design and technology of 2003 was poorer than today, PHP not as widely used etc., Geocities sites with Comic Sans MS and poor layouts etc.

I'm interested to hear your opinions on both topics - although it may take some time to reply until later tonight or tomorrow, for now.
